Have you ever been at a place in your life where you wonder “Why am I doing the things I continue to do?”
In 2019, we looked at each other and realized we needed to take a major pause and ask ourselves the most important question, what do we value most in life? We realized our current choices were not helping us achieve what we wanted most: time freedom. For us the direct path was working for ourselves and doing what we love most; real estate investing. We took a leap of faith and left the San Francisco tech bubble to build a real estate investment company, formerly known as DaCosta Real Estate Investments LLC, in Jacksonville, Florida.
Our business rapidly took off and as we grew our portfolio, we created Nomad Hospitality as our guest facing and property management company. In 2021 we joined forces with our longtime friends and Navy veterans from silicon valley, Josh and Kassandra Kristoff, to form Nomad Capital Ventures LLC. As the company grew, we created additional businesses, DK Design and Develop LLC, our development and construction company, and Nomad Realty, our real estate brokerage to deliver a full service experience for real estate investors.
Today, we have over $60M assets under management and we’re just getting started. At Nomad Capital Ventures LLC, we’re constantly looking at the market to identify new opportunities and optimize asset performance while improving the guest experience through a blend of automation, software, and data.
Our goal is to create a different real estate investment experience. We’re accessible, simple, and transparent. Plus we’re having a blast doing what we love.
Meet the Team
Established in 2019. Growing stronger every year.
Jered DaCosta
Jered graduated from the United States Military Academy with a BS in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, he spent 5 years in the US Army which included a combat tour to Fallujah, Iraq. After the Army, Jered attended business school at the University of Notre Dame where he studied Finance and Investments. Upon graduation from business school, he worked two years as an investment banker on Wall Street and three years in Venture Capital.
After five years in the Finance world, he wanted to pursue a career that would leverage his finance, operations, and leadership skills. He worked at Amazon for three years, helping launch two of Amazon’s new businesses (PrimeNow and Amazon Logistics) in San Francisco, CA.
This was long enough for Amazon’s customer centric ideals to be fully engrained in Jered and a mindset that differentiates our business. He was finally sucked into the San Francisco startup world in the last 2 years before taking the leap into real estate full time with Carly to build a business together.
Jered may be the most analytical, data-driven real estate investor you’ve ever met and he really likes what he sees driving the Jacksonville area real estate. Jered currently manages over 135 units with 64 being short term rental and 67 being long term rentals. His current portfolio of assets under management is over $50mm.
Carly DaCosta
Carly graduated from the United States Military Academy (Beat Navy!) with a BS in Nuclear Engineering. Upon graduation, she spent 5 years in the US Army as a Signal Corps officer. After the Army, Carly attended business school at the University of Notre Dame where she studied Finance and Investments.
Upon graduation from business school, she worked in Private Wealth Management in JP Morgan’s Private Bank (New York and Washington, D.C.). As a transition out of finance and to differentiate her resume from every other non-engineer, she challenged herself to take a 3-month coding bootcamp, which opened the door for her to the startup world. She spent 3 years at an early stage (8th employee) database company, growing it to 35 people. She was responsible for all business operations including legal, finance/accounting, and HR; all of these proving very valuable starting DREI.
The experience of managing Seed and Series A funding rounds was instrumental when she managed DaCosta Real Estate Investments (DREI’s) first syndication to purchase a 6-unit apartment building in San Francisco, CA, which paved the way for future syndicated investments via Nomad Capital Ventures. After a full year of managing the apartment renovation, she was over the moon when Jered agreed to start DREI. She loves the future prospects of growth in the Jacksonville, FL area and hopes to introduce opportunities to everyone in their network.
Josh Kristoff
Josh graduated from the United States Naval Academy (Beat Army!) with a BS in Quantitative Economics. He spent 7 years in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer. Josh transitioned from the Navy and ran operations and business development for a manufacturing company in his hometown of Syracuse, NY. It was two years of record growth there before Josh and Kass knew they wanted to join the digital revolution and went straight to the heart of it all in San Francisco where they first met Jered & Carly and family.
His first job was at early-stage HomeSuite, think Airbnb for monthly furnished rentals (before Airbnb started doing it) – he ran all things automation on the supply side. Josh loves building automation tools and moved on to Cisco Meraki, a small business unit powering Cisco’s current growth strategy. He built a team of technical program managers and drove several strategic data projects across the organization. Concurrent with his time at Meraki, Josh earned his MBA from The Wharton School as a double major in Business Analytics and Joint Marketing and Operations Management.
The pandemic enabled remote work and Josh & Kass knew they would go straight to the Beaches of Jax – their first Navy duty station and also where they got engaged. In 2020, they moved and executed in rapid succession four deals, two syndicated. Josh loves the Jax communities and every aspect of this business, from underwriting deals, working with investors, overseeing renovations, implementing software systems, and of course delivering 5-star experiences.
Kassandra Kristoff
Kassandra (Kass) graduated from Marquette University with a BA in Communications and Journalism. Upon graduation, she spent 5 years in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer. After the Navy, she moved to Syracuse, NY with Josh, and spent 3 years raising two little ones at home while completing her MBA at Syracuse University. While at school, Kass and Josh attended a veterans workshop in San Francisco, CA, which opened a world of opportunity in the tech industry. This experience led Kass to her first civilian job working at Pinterest as a design Program Manager, marrying her experience leading programs in the Navy with her love of design.
After working at Pinterest for almost 2 years, she decided to transition to the communications field and joined Google’s Pixel Hardware team, leading the communications strategy for Google VP’s across the Bay area and Taiwan. After more than 2 years at Google, Kass moved to Facebook, supporting the Integrity and Research VP’s, leading crisis response comms, speechwriting, and company-wide communication strategies.
Fortunately, the pandemic offered the opportunity to work remote led Kass and Josh, and their three children to sunny Jacksonville Beach where they quickly dove into building real estate investments alongside their day jobs. For Kass, diving into real estate investments was thrilling. A curious go-getter at heart, Kass enjoys creative problem solving, and the opportunity to join Carly and Jered in building real estate investments was a no-brainer.
The entrepreneurial call beckoned and Kass was quick to answer. Although Kass initially planned to continue working in tech, Kass couldn’t say no to the opportunity to partner with her husband Josh, and dearest friends, Carly and Jered. Kass quit the high intensity, high stress world of tech communications in November 2021, to work with her favorite people in the world and build a company in a city she loves. Kass and Josh also recently welcomed their 4th child as they start on this next chapter.
